Silver Cross Hospital issued the following news release:
The Chicago Building Congress recently honored Silver Cross Hospital with Project of the Year at its 2013 Merit Awards Competition held in May at the University Club in Chicago. The 6-story, $360 million Silver Cross Replacement Hospital opened February 26, 2012 at I-355 and Route 6 in New Lenox.
Since 1956, the Chicago Building Congress (CBC) has been recognizing the projects and people who make the Chicago building industry great. Each year, six projects that have been constructed in the past three years are selected for Merit Awards with one chosen as Project of the Year. Past Merit Award recipients include Chicago Botanic Garden Plant Conservation Science Center, Trump International Hotel, and Soldier Field and North Burnam Park redevelopment.
“Winning Project of the Year is a testament to the teamwork portrayed by Mortenson, GRAEF, RTKL and the Silver Cross staff to bring a state-of-the-art healthcare facility to the residents of Will County,” said Paul Pawlak, President and CEO of Silver Cross Hospital.
In January, representatives from Mortenson Construction, GRAEF, RTKL and Silver Cross Hospital submitted the replacement hospital project in the New Construction – Suburbs Category highlighting the project’s commitment to the community. In addition to receiving one of the six Merit Awards, Silver Cross was chosen as Project of the Year for based upon several factors including its user-based design process incorporating best practices in care delivery and early goal setting sessions that focused on patients, community and optimum delivery of health care.
“Not only is the new hospital esthetically appealing but has proven optimal in delivering a quality experience for our patients,” said Pawlak. So much so that in our first year of operations our admissions increased by 25% and our deliveries (births) are up an overwhelming 27%. The new hospital has also attracted over 200 physicians to join our medical staff and we have hired over 400 new healthcare workers in the past year.”
