Smallcakes Opening Joliet Store Along Jefferson Street

JOLIET, IL — Joliet's West Jefferson Street has marked several triumphs this year, and one of the latest positive signs is the announcement that a Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery will be opening there in the near future.

The Smallcakes storefront will be at 2410 West Jefferson Street, Suite 106. That's the same strip mall that has the Panda Express, over near the Walmart Supercenter and Menards.

According to its website, Smallcakes bakes and frosts 18 signature flavors daily, plus it offers seasonal and special flavors such as maple bacon, Fat Elvis, cannoli, strawberries 'n crème, tiramisu, French toast and pumpkin.

Store employees also make 15 flavors of small-batch ice cream every day, according to Smallcakes.

On Monday afternoon, one of the painters for the Smallcakes business let Joliet Patch step inside to take a photo of the interior. The painter said he did not know of the grand opening date.

Several little yard signs for the Smallcakes are posted near the entrance roads leading to the Walmart shopping center. Smallcakes is now hiring experienced bakers and decorators, the signs advise.

"After appearances on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,” seasons one, two, and seven, as well as on the hit daytime talk show “The View,” Smallcakes became well known and in hot demand in neighborhoods across the nation," the website for Smallcakes proclaims. "Even celebrities have had Smallcakes at their events and weddings. USA TODAY listed Smallcakes as one of the Top Ten Cupcake Places to try in the country."

The soon-to-be opening Joliet store will give Smallcakes about 16 locations in Illinois.
