Woman Used Can Of Deodorant As Dangerous Weapon: Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL — A 52-year-old Joliet woman arrested inside an apartment on Oneida Street now finds herself lodged in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say she used a can of deodorant as a dangerous weapon to attack a man.
According to the arrest reports, at 12:21 a.m. Tuesday, the officers responded to an apartment in the 2200 block of Oneida Street for a domestic disturbance.
During an argument inside the apartment, Zelma Pruitte allegedly struck a man in the head with what is believed to have been a deodorant can, the arrest report showed. When the man attempted to call 911, Pruitte allegedly began attacking him again in an attempt to prevent him from making the call, according to police department spokesman Dwayne English.

After her arrest, Pruitte complained of an unrelated medical issue and was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. Upon her release from the hospital, Pruitte was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
Pruitte was charged with domestic battery, aggravated battery, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

Pruitte remained in the jail on Thursday. She was also kept in the Will County Jail for other criminal offenses in 2020, 2021 and 2022, the jail showed.
