He Threatened To Rape and Kill Jim Glasgow Years Ago, Jason Chance's Latest Arrest At St. Joe's Hospital

JOLIET, IL — It does not happen often, but Joliet police officers responded to the St. Joe's Medical Center on Friday for a major disruption, one that resulted in the arrest of Jason Chance, a 53-year-old homeless man, now facing three counts of aggravated assault.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 8:40 a.m., the officers responded to St Joseph Medical Center for a disturbance. English said that Jason Chance, 53, homeless, was a patient at the hospital and had reportedly become disruptive while receiving medical treatment.

The hospital security responded and attempted to intervene.

"During the encounter, Chance allegedly made threatening statements indicating that he would obtain a knife and stab them. No weapon was displayed or located during the incident," English announced.

He said that Chance had made similar statements regarding stabbing security personnel while speaking with 911 dispatchers. Chance was placed into custody without incident and charged with three counts of aggravated assault. He refused further medical assistance and was transported to the Joliet Police Department where he was processed and released on a notice to appear in court.

Thirteen years ago, at age 40, Chance was the focus of a Joliet Patch crime story by reporter Joseph Hosey headlined, "Man Who Threatened Rape & Kill Glasgow Forced to Wear Hood."

In 2013, Jason Chance, the man convicted of posting a Facebook threat to rape and kill Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow was taken to court in a "spit hood."

He had made threats to headbutt anyone who came near him during his court appearance, sources said. He also penned a poem in which he threatened to spit into a wound he planned to inflict to his public defender, Dan Kennedy, among other things, a source said.

The "medical filltration fabric" of a spit hood "helps to contain contaminants and is a deterrent against biting or spitting," according to the website Southern Police Equipment.

Chance, a resident of Downstate Lewiston, made the threats against Glasgow in a 2010 Facebook post and got a two-year prison sentence for it. On top of the prison sentence, Chance was hit with 30 months probation with special conditions. Chance allegedly violated that probation by making threatening telephone calls to Will County Judge Matthew Bertani and Channahon Village Clerk Janet Schumacher, as well as to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
