St Raymond School Wins Battle of the Books Competition

First win in the school's history for Battle of the Books.

Joliet, IL — On Wednesday, April 25th 2018 the Cathedral of St Raymond School participated in the Joliet Diocese 7th and 8th Grade Battle of the Books Competition at St Dennis School in Lockport, IL. There were ten 7th grade teams and seven 8th grade teams from six participating Catholic Junior High Schools in the area. Each team had to read a total of six books that were preselected by the Joliet Diocese Battle of the Books Committee. This is the first overall win in the school’s history. Last year’s 6th grade team took home 3rd place and was the first team to ever place in the top 3 and receive medals.

The first place 8th grade team was comprised of Captain Jacob Abbott, Lena Baltz, Ryan Cox, Regan Hattemar and Marlie Potocki. The 7th grade team placed 3rd in their grade level and was comprised of Captain Marley Hennessey, Lauren Cardwell, Carter Holbrook, Allison McCarthy, and Ceselie Mudron. Both teams will be honored at the school’s Jr High Honors Award Night on May 21st.
