JOLIET, IL — Several times every year, the Joliet Police Department gets sent to the Star Inn motel on West Jefferson Street after trouble breaks out at the hotel, which offers daily and weekly rates. The latest violent confrontation happened over the weekend, resulting in the arrest of 40-year-old James Raymond, who comes from the 1200 block of Joliet's Caton Avenue.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 2:22 a.m. Saturday, the officers responded to the Star
Inn at 2219 1⁄2 W. Jefferson St. for a disturbance.

Joliet police said that the room occupant had invited two acquaintances to stay with him. During the encounter, James Raymond of Joliet began acting erratically.

"It is alleged that Raymond produced a knife and began stabbing the bed multiple times. During this behavior, he is believed to have accidentally stabbed an adult male in the foot, causing a minor injury," English said.

Raymond then allegedly damaged the television in the room by stabbing it multiple times, English noted.

As the two other men tried to intervene, Raymond is accused of punching one of them in the mouth multiple times. Raymond was located by Joliet police at the scene and taken into custody without incident.

English said the officers recovered a pocketknife believed to have been used during the incident. Raymond was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

According to his criminal complaint, Raymond is charged with aggravated battery, two counts of battery and two counts of criminal damage to property.

Will County Judge John Connor ordered Raymond's release from the Will County Jail on Sunday after the Will County State's Attorney's Office did not file a petition to detain Raymond under the SAFE-T-Act.

Raymond was ordered not to leave Illinois unless he obtains the court's permission, and he was ordered to stay away from two different men as well as the Star Inn.

"Shall drug test on each court date," Judge Connor also ordered.
