Your Easter Weekend Forecast

A LOOK AHEAD: Here's a weekend weather forecast and road-construction information for holiday-weekend travelers in northern Illinois.

Here is the forecast as you plan Easter weekend holiday travel:

  • FRIDAY: Sunny in the morning, scattered showers in the afternoon, especially south. Possibility of wet snow Friday night and colder temps.
  • SATURDAY: Temps improve to the mid 50s in the Chicago area. Breezy, patchy clouds.
  • SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Temps should be above 60 degrees, giving us our seventh day of 60-degree temperatures in 2015. Possible light rain.
  • MONDAY: Another day with a prospect for showers and thunderstorms.

The heaviest travel day is expected to be Monday, April 6, when the tollway anticipates 1.6 million vehicles on the area’s interstates, about 100,000 more than a typical day.

All temporary lane closures will be suspended from Friday through Monday. However, some roadwork may continue behind the barriers. Drivers are urged to be cautious. Construction alert information can be viewed at www.illinoistollway.com. Areas where work zones will continue during the holiday include:

Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90)

  • Between the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and Illinois Route 31, three lanes of traffic are available in both directions, but traffic is shifted at various points to provide construction work zones.

Ramps carrying northbound Elmhurst Road traffic traveling to and from the east on I-90 are currently closed. All traffic is routed at signalized intersections to the ramps currently used to carry southbound Elmhurst Road traffic traveling to and from the east.

Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80)

  • The ramp carrying eastbound Grand Avenue (Illinois Route 132) to westbound I-94 is closed and a detour is posted.

Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project – Illinois Route 390

  • Between Lake Street (U.S. Route 20) and I-290, traffic shifts are in place at various points on Illinois Route 390.

On I-290, eastbound traffic exiting to Illinois Route 390 is shifted onto a single ramp. At the end of the ramp, vehicles use the same traffic signal, with westbound traffic directed to turn right and eastbound traffic directed to turn left.
