Street Gang Member With Stolen Gun Arrested In Joliet: JPD

Bail was set at $500,000 for Salvador Leo, a Lockport resident who lives on east 11th Street.

JOLIET, IL — A 29-year-old Lockport resident is now in the Will County Jail facing a $500,000 bail after Joliet police say Salvador Leo had a stolen, defaced gun in his possession during a traffic stop Friday night.

Leo was taken away in handcuffs on the following charges:

  • armed habitual criminal
  • aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon
  • unlawful use of a weapon
  • unlawful possession of a firearm by street gang member
  • possession of stolen firearm
  • defacing identification mark of firearm
  • unlawful possession of ammunition
  • no FOID card.

Olivia Grice, a 30-year-old woman from Alsip, was cited and released at the scene of Leo's arrest for disobeying a stop sign, driving while license suspended and unlawful possession of cannabis by driver, police reports show.

The traffic stop responsible for Leo's arrest happened at 8:50 p.m. near Fourth Avenue and South Chicago Street because the Alsip woman disobeyed a stop sign, Joliet police noted.

The driver advised there was marijuana in her vehicle and officers observed a rolled cannabis cigar in the ashtray, according to police.

After Leo stepped outside the car, officers recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun from his waistband and a small plastic bag containing multiple rounds of ammunition from his pocket, police announced.

Leo was placed into custody without incident. The serial number had been defaced from the gun Leo had, police reports show. As for Grice, she was cited and the vehicle was towed, Joliet police indicated.

Leo lives in the 200 block of Lockport's East 11th Street, jail logs show.
