Students Excel in Joliet Public Schools District 86 Spelling Bee

District 86 Students Compete in District Spelling Contest

After 16 rounds of spelling, Lynne Thigpen Elementary School fifth-grade student Xavier Samuel won the Joliet Public Schools District 86 Elementary School Spelling Bee Contest. David Gaucin from T.E. Culbertson Elementary was the runner-up. Madison Esters from Woodland Elementary placed third and Jack Erzinger from Farragut Elementary came in fourth place.

Also competing in the contest were: Oliver Gentry, M.J. Cunningham Elementary; Lionel Salazar, Eisenhower Academy; Emmanuel Diaz, Forest Park Individual Education School; Juliana Crowder, Thomas Jefferson Elementary; Julissa Segura-Leija, Edna Keith Elementary; Jose Garcia, A.O. Marshall Elementary; Jace Jones, Pershing Elementary; Cristian Sosme Moyotl, Sator Sanchez Elementary; Brandon Gentry, Carl Sandburg Elementary; Sarai Navarro, Isaac Singleton Elementary; and Melody De Los Angeles, Taft Elementary.

In addition, congratulations to the four District 86 junior high students who will compete in the Will County Regional Spelling Bee at Lincoln-Way West High School on March 14, 2024. The students are Jaiden Lempke, Dirksen Junior High; Brissa Cerrillo, Gompers Junior High; Malik Flowers, Hufford Junior High, and Rocco Jones, Washington Junior High.
