Earlier in the day, the sheriff's office said conversation was ongoing between the armed suspect, crisis negotiators and the man's family members.
The sheriff's office said the incident began as the man in his forties was being pulled over this afternoon for multiple felony warrants. That initial traffic stop occurred in the 200 block of St. Jude Avenue, where police said the man crashed his car into a fence. He took off running and went inside a home, which was not his, two streets over on Romayne, where he remained for a more than eight-hour standoff with police, the sheriff's office said.
The neighborhood near Joyce between Jefferson Street and McDonough Street had numerous blocks shut down due to the police activity.
"We want to thank Joliet Police for their continued assistance in this incident today," the sheriff's office said.
