Scooter Crash On Plainfield Road Leads To 4 Charges For Rider

Christian Lara, age 37, fell off of the scooter while navigating an area of road construction, Joliet police announced.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that a 37-year-old man from Lemont who was riding his Tao Tao scooter near Joliet Fire Station 5 when he crashed Monday night is now facing four charges.

The Joliet Fire Department said the victim was conscious and wake after the crash and he indicated to paramedics they were driving around 30 mph along Plainfield Road when they tried to pass a car.

At 8:05 p.m., officers responded to the area of Plainfield Road and Mason Avenue for a single vehicle crash. A Tao Tao scooter driven by Christian Lara of Lemont was eastbound on Plainfield Road approaching Mason Avenue when Lara fell off of the scooter while navigating an area of road construction in the area.

Lara was taken to the Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for treatment of his injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Lara was cited for No Valid Registration, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Improper Lane Usage.
