Teen, 19, Crashes Into Light Pole Near Downtown Bridge: JPD

Tuesday's wreck involving Mia Becerra happened around 4 a.m. as she was heading into downtown Joliet over the Jefferson Street Bridge.

JOLIET, IL — A 19-year-old woman was arrested around 4 a.m. Tuesday after she crashed into a street pole near the Jefferson Street Bridge because she was under the influence of alcohol as well as drugs, according to Joliet police reports.

Joliet booked Mia Becerra into Will County's Jail at 6:41 a.m. on charges of possession of controlled substances, DUI-alcohol, DUI-drugs and DUI-drugs and alcohol, plus marijuana possession.

Joliet police responded to the crash at West Jefferson Street and North Desplaines Street. Becerra was driving her car eastbound crossing the Jefferson Street bridge when she collided with a street pole on the southeast side of the intersection, police reports indicate.

Her car was heavily damaged from the wreck, but Becerra was uninjured.

Following her crash, Becerra showed signs of alcohol impairment, and she was taken away in handcuffs following the field sobriety tests, police reports reflect.

Inside her car, Joliet police found Alprazolam and marijuana, her arrest report showed. Becerra was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and police had her car towed away.

She got released from the Will County Jail around 6 p.m. Wednesday. Jail records did not indicate any bail was set. Joliet police listed her as residing in Joliet while jail records had her from Bolingbrook.
