Teen Shot In Joliet Near Houbolt Road, Suspect Caught: JPD
The 17-year-old boy sustained two gunshot wounds in the 900 block of Shiloh Court.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police announced that Nathaniel Jakes, the 19-year-old gunman responsible for shooting a 17-year-old boy twice early Sunday evening, leaving his victim in critical condition, has been captured following a crash in Chicago.
Jakes has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer.
Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday:

- Officers were sent to the College Park subdivision off Houbolt Road after someone was shot in the 900 block of Shiloh Court.
- A Dodge Durango was leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.
- Officers pursued the fleeing vehicle to the area of Interstate 55, but were unable to stop it. At the scene on Shiloh Court, officers found the 17-year-old boy who had sustained two gunshot wounds. The shooting victim was rushed to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department in critical condition.
- The victim was later air lifted to Stroger Hospital in Chicago.
- Jakes was identified as the suspect who had shot the victim during a fight outside the house.
- A short time later, Joliet police were notified that the Illinois State Police had located the Dodge Durango and following a crash near 71st Street and Racine in Chicago.
- Jakes was in the vehicle and placed into custody.
- Officers brought Jakes back to Joliet, where he was processed and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Jakes was booked into the Will County Jail around 8 a.m. Monday. He comes from the 1200 block of Joliet's Fitzer Drive.
