D'Arcy Motors Rezoning, Honorary Street For Terry D'Arcy OK'd

D'Arcy is also one of the political campaign donors to a number of Joliet officials from Mayor Bob O'Dekirk to Pat Mudron to Bettye Gavin.

JOLIET, IL —Terry D'Arcy, one of Joliet's major political campaign donors, received approval from the Joliet City Council Monday night to rezone 16.3 acres along Essington Road to expand his D'Arcy Motors in the 2000 block of Essington Road.

D'Arcy intends to move his D'Arcy Hyundai from West Jefferson Street to Essington.

Also of importance, the Council approved a resolution calling for an honorary street name change for Terry D'Arcy on Essington Road between Fiday Road and Old Castle Road.

D'Arcy is the dealer principal at D'Arcy Buick GMC, 2022 Essington Road, and the dealer principal with D'Arcy Hyundai, at 2522 West Jefferson St.

He is known around Joliet as both a philanthropist and as a behind the scenes mover and shaker in Joliet and Will County politics. D'Arcy has donated at least $9,250 to Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow as well as $3,5000 to Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley, campaign finance records show.

According to the Illinois Sunshine Database, D'Arcy serves as the chairman of the Committee to Elect Patrick Mudron, who is serving his second term on the Joliet City Council.

D'Arcy gave Mudron $500 for his re-election race in March 2019.

In recent history, D'Arcy donated $500 to City Councilman Larry Hug this January and another $500 in December 2018.

D'Arcy donated $500 to Mayor Bob O'Dekirk in April 2019, $500 in March 2019 and D'Arcy Motors donated $2,100 to the Citizens for O'Dekirk in August 2018. Terry D'Arcy is listed as one of the mayor's top 25 campaign donors, since 2015, at $5,500.

D'Arcy donated $500 to the Committee to Elect Bettye Gavin in March 2019, helping support her victory in a three-person race for re-election last year.

In November 2018, D'Arcy donated $1,000 to the Committee to Elect Joe Mutz to the Joliet City Council, only to donate $200 to Mutz's opponent, Sherri Reardon, two months before their election. Reardon defeated Mutz in the head to head race in April 2019.

In 2019, D'Arcy also donated $750 to the Committee to Elect Don "Duck" Dickinson, the Illinois campaign donation database shows.

The honorary street resolution before the Joliet City Council praised D'Arcy for his philanthropy in Joliet.

In December 2017, Joliet Patch covered an event in which D'Arcy donated a $27,000 van to the Joliet Boys & Girls Club on Clinton Street. Several dozen local officials including Glasgow were on hand for the ceremony.
