Thousands Without Power Due to Snow: ComEd
Situation could get worse as snow continues to fall.

With more than a half-foot of snow on the ground in most areas, snow continued to fall Sunday, leaving some area residents without power and a blizzard warning taking effect.

About 15,000 ComEd customers are without electricity thanks to the snowstorm, including about 14,000 in Joliet, Crestwood and University Park, the Chicago Tribune Reported. There were about 600 customers without power in Plainfield, according to ComEd.
The situation could get worse as snow continues to fall, according to ComEd.

“Due to the heavy snow falling we are experiencing tree branches and limbs coming down along with some power lines,” the Village of Plainfield said. “Also, if you experience a power outage and require shelter please call the non-emergency number at the police department 815-436-2341.”
A spokesman for Comcast also told the Tribune that high winds plus heavy loads of snow could cause downed cable lines. Due to the risk of shock, residents should not attempt to move the lines themselves. Report downed lines by calling Comcast at 866-594-1234.

With the possibility of more than 18 inches of additional snowfall in some areas, by noon, the National Weather Service was reporting snowfall totals of 9.6 inches in Romeoville, 10 inches in Plainfield, 8.5 inches in New Lenox and 10 inches in Yorkville.
