Threat To Joliet West High School Solved, Joliet Police Make Arrest

JOLIET, IL —An online threat on social media vowing to bring harm to Joliet West on Wednesday has been solved, and an arrest has been made, according to school officials with Joliet Township High School District 204.

In a social media post, Joliet police said they "have taken an individual into custody related to this threat, at their residence" and that further information will be released later Wednesday morning.

"This morning, JTHS administrators were notified of a threat circulating on social media. The Joliet Police Department quickly identified the individual who posted the threat and the individual is in custody," District 204 announced. "We are grateful to the Joliet Police Department for their quick action. Joliet West High School is proceeding with normal school procedures for the remainder of the day."

The school district wanted to remind parents that to talk to their student or students about the consequences of reposting or sharing threatening social media posts and the importance of reporting threats.

"We ask that parents take a moment to discuss the topic of school threats with their student(s) and pledge as a family to report threats to the proper authorities and refrain from sharing rumored threats and unverified information with others."
