Three Charged with ‘Skimming’ Credit Cards at Joliet Gas Stations

Three men were arrested this week in connection with a credit card fraud scheme that targeted customers at two Thornton’s gas stations in Joliet in November and December.
Gherghe Dunca, 39, Cristian David Dunca, 25, and Marinel Velcu, 22, were arrested at a McDonough Street motel Saturday after using credit card “skimming” devices to obtain credit card information at gas stations on Jefferson Street and Essington Road. A hold has been placed on the men by the United States Secret Service, according to WJOL.
The men allegedly placed the skimming devices on gas pumps at the two gas stations , according to police.

All three are charged with felony credit card fraud and participating in a financial crime enterprise. The men remained in custody on Thursday afternoon, according to Will County jail records.
Bond for all three is set at $350,000, and the trio is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 26.
