Tinted Window Traffic Stop, Deadly Weapon Found: JPD

JOLIET, IL — A 21-year-old Joliet man who comes from the 100 block of Iowa Avenue on the city's east side remains in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say Juan Leon Jr. had a loaded gun inside his car at the same time he was driving with illegally tinted windows.

Three days later, Leon remains in the jail and his bail is $75,000. Leon is being charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of weapon by felon and having NO FOID.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events led to Leon's arrest:

  • At 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Joliet officer pulled over Leon's Subaru Legacy in the 500 block of East Cass Street for having tinted windows.
  • Officers received consent to search Leon's vehicle and a loaded handgun was found on the passenger floorboard.
  • Leon was also cited for window treatment adjacent to driver, driving without a registration light and illegal transportation of alcohol by driver. His vehicle was towed from the scene.

Back in June 2020, Joliet Patch wrote about Leon, then 18 years old, being put in the Will County Jail after being arrested by Will County Sheriff's Office on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen gun, having a gun without valid FOID and unlawful possession of marijuana as the driver.
