Tonto Burrito Opens On Joliet's Busiest Street, Customers Love It

JOLIET, IL — Say goodbye to Joliet's Tastee Bite restaurant at 2953 West Jefferson Street and say hello to its new replacement —Tonto Burrito. With 20 different burritos on the menu, including two of its most popular — the Signature Crazy Burrito and the Hot Cheetos Burrito —Tonto Burrito marked its grand opening Friday at Joliet's west side strip mall across from Inwood just east of the John's Beverage liquor store.

Tonto Burrito also has a breakfast burrito meal as well as appetizers including crazy nachos, crazy nacho fries and crazy flamingos.

And you can find traditional items including burgers and hotdogs. Plates are served with beans and rice and the plate offerings include chicken fajitas or steak, four flautas beef or chicken, the carne asada dinner, tampiquena, birria plate, green chili and red chili plate and the enchilladas plate.

"It's been pretty busy," remarked Tonto Burrito owner Karina Rosales. She said this is the first Tonto Burrito in the Joliet area. "Burrito is our special. We have a lot of different burritos. The Signature Burrito and the Hot Cheetos Burrito is pretty famous."

Tonto Burrito is now open in Joliet from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

"Phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal, really, the best I've ever had," remarked Shorewood resident Frank Pastorello. He ordered the chicken fajita burrito for $11.50. "My diet will start tomorrow, and it will end by Monday. Definitely, definitely, without question, I will be back."

Rosales urged people to call ahead with their orders. The Tonto Burrito is not a drive-thru restaurant. There's dine-in seating and carryout. The restaurant phone is 815-714-2998.

"Call ahead. That's going to help a lot," she said. "Our food is fresh every day."

Rosales also wanted people to know that Tonto Burrito is working with the city of Joliet to obtain a liquor license to offer margaritas and other alcoholic drinks. She hopes to have the liquor license in place around October.
