Trader Joe's Opening Joliet Storefront Near Louis Joliet Mall? Multiple Sources Inform Patch It's True
The Joliet Joann Fabrics and Crafts store at 2741 Plainfield Road was one of several hundred Joann stores across the country that closed.

JOLIET, IL — One year after the Joann Fabrics store closed in the Joliet Commons at 2741 Plainfield Road, it appears the empty retail store will be replaced in 2026 with a Trader Joe's grocery store.
Multiple sources informed Joliet Patch on Friday that Trader Joe's will be remodeling the empty storefront at 2741 Plainfield Road. Trader Joe's has put out a contract bid for the property at 2741 Plainfield Road in Joliet announcing that the construction work will be commercial and that it is 15,000 feet in square footage and that the project involves a retail store.
The bidding date for contractors interested in performing the work is noon Eastern on Feb. 19, Joliet Patch was notified.

According to its website, "At Trader Joe's, you won’t find a lot of branded items. Instead, you’ll discover a store full of unique and interesting products, along with everyday basics, in the Trader Joe's label. Our buyers travel the world searching for products we think are exceptional and will find a following among our customers. To earn a spot on our shelves, each product is submitted to a rigorous tasting panel process, in which every aspect of quality is investigated in context of the price we can offer. If a product is assessed as an outstanding value, it becomes an essential part of the Trader Joe's shopping adventure."
In November, the Oswego Patch ran a story revealing Trader Joe's was coming to Oswego.

"Obviously, the village has known for a very long time," Oswego Village President Ryan Kauffman said at the Oswego Area of Commerce legislative luncheon. "We couldn't say it because it's not really our news to give. ... We just received an email a minute ago saying, 'Go ahead.'"
Kauffman also shared the news in a post on Facebook but said the popular grocer has "not announced a timeline or location yet." A mystery grocery store, approved in February of 2025 with no users named in the application, is under construction at the corner of Route 34 and Kendall Point Drive, but it's unclear if this is where the Trader Joe's will be.
According to its website, there are existing Trade Joe's grocery stores in the following Illinois communities:
