Troy 30-C bus driver, monitor named Troy Blue Award recipients
Doug Shadowens, Anita Brozyna receive award for assisting with medical emergency

A special honor, The Troy Blue Award, was recently given to two Troy Community School District 30-C transportation employees. The award is given to those who show their commitment to the high ideals held by the district. Troy’s color motif is blue.
According to Troy Transportation Director Mark Baumann, bus driver Doug Shadowens and bus monitor Anita Brozyna were on their normal route when they came upon a community member who had fallen in the snow and was injured.
“The woman was in pretty bad shape,” Baumann said, “and she needed medical attention.”
The pair stopped the bus, made sure the students were secure, called 911, helped the woman and kept her steady until emergency services arrived.
Baumann said he was grateful for their diligence and care and thanked them for “being the kind of people the world needs more of.”
Shadowens and Brozyna were recognized by the Troy 30-C Board of Education at a recent meeting.
“‘Troy Blue’ is about having a deep passion, a deep commitment to students, staff and the community, and essentially, doing the right thing,” said Troy Superintendent Dr. Todd Koehl.
