Troy 30-C Coaches Named Illinois Junior High Coaches Of The Year
Awards presented to Serena Cruz, Clint Reames by the Illinois Basketball Coaches' Association
Two Troy Middle School coaches, Serena Cruz and Clint Reames, have been named 2020 Illinois Junior High Coaches of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches’ Association.
Cruz coached the Troy Middle School 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team to 2nd place in the IESA 4A State Championship this year, and Reames brought his Troy Middle School 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team to 4th place at the IESA 4A State Tournament.
Troy Athletics Director Meagan DeGroot said the coaches well-deserved the honor.

“Serena and Clint have a great responsibility to this community to make sure that everything Troy does is first-class. When they travel to other schools, when the kids go to class, and when they compete, these two coaches make sure it is done the right way. Throughout the season they made sure our student athletes were keeping their grades up, all while advancing to the highest levels at IESA state tournaments. These two coaches put the time and effort into the kids and the program, and it shows. I couldn’t be more proud to have them on staff, and I’m excited for what the future brings.”
Cruz and Reames said they were honored by the awards.

“This year I was able to coach an exceptional group of girls,” Cruz said. “Their hard work and ability to trust the process is what lead to our team’s success. I would like to thank them for a wonderful season and look forward to watching them excel at the next level.”
“This year's basketball season was special for many reasons,” Reames said. “I was privileged to coach a great group of young men whose hard work and effort paid off as being the first Troy 8th Grade Boys' Basketball Team to make it down to state. I would like to thank the players for a wonderful season and cannot wait to see them excel at the high school level.”
In 2019, Coaches Cruz and Matthew Stortz were named Coaches of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches' Association – Cruz for 8th grade girls' basketball and Stortz for 7th grade girls' basketball.
