Before Troy Hofer Elementary School Principal Kristin Copes had her own children, her students were her children. They still are, in effect, and hold special places in her heart. She enjoys the times when she gets to read to them.

“It’s a reminder how before I had my own kids, my kids were my classes of students who would get as close as they could to me as I revealed the new read of the day,” Copes said. “Reading to the kids is personal. Even with a class of them, it's a ‘You and Me Time’ where we can read, react, connect, converse, listen, learn and get to know one another.”

For the first “You and Me Time” this school year, Copes read, “The Coffee Bean for Kids” to Alexa Johnson’s 3rd grade class - a book about a young boy who learns how to face challenges after moving to a new town.
