Troy Special Olympics Track And Field Team Headed To State

Six Troy School District 30-C students earned gold medals for the cut

Six members of the Troy District 30-C Special Olympics Track and Field Team earned gold medals this month and will be headed to state competition at Illinois State University in June.

The students are Leah Coleman and Martin Huntington for the 50-meter run and Kayla Calvin, Gabriel Compton, Haylee Gonzalez and Seren Jenkins for the 100-meter run.

Also placing at the regional meet at Thornwood High School in South Holland were Jackson Cowan, Noah Melton and Jo Mindeman, who took silver medals in the 100-meter run; Zoe Barnes, who took a bronze medal in the 100-meter run; and Jacob Adlfinger and Josie Pearson, who earned bronze medals in the 50-meter run.

Coaches for the team are Nicolle Oldenburg and Jessica Tuttle.

“We are so proud of all the accomplishments that each athlete made,” Oldenburg said. “They worked so hard during our season, and that hard work paid off.”
