Troy Students Headed to MathCON National Finals

Three Troy Middle School students and one William B. Orenic Intermediate School student have been selected to advance to MathCON Finals on April 27 in Chicago.
They are 6th grader Alexander Randolph, who received a national ranking of 119; 8th grader Josie Jarmuz, whose ranking was 135; 8th grader Nico Montes, whose ranking was 185; and 7th grader Quinn Preis, whose ranking was 203.

The students will advance after excelling in the MathCON preliminary assessments earlier in the year.
MathCON is a national student math competition for students in grades 5-12. Its testing categories include number systems, word problems, absolute value equations, surface area and volume, exponential numbers, numeric patterns and percent equations.

"It is simply amazing how well our Troy students perform in math,” Troy teacher Dr. Barbara Will-Henn said. “Not a one is a single-trick pony, either. Each has additional strengths outside the academic arena.”
MathCON’s goal is to engage students in STEM subjects outside of the classroom and encourage more students to enter STEM fields. Its logo is, “Stronger Math, Brighter Futures.”
