Truck Travel Center Heads To Joliet City Council For Vote

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet City Council is expected to vote at Tuesday night's meeting whether to approve a special use permit that would allow the construction of a truck and travel fueling center near Interstate 80's Hollywood Road corridor.

The truck fueling center would be built on the 18.6-acre parcel owned by the P.T. Ferro Construction Company. P.T. Ferro wants to sell the land, which is at the southwest corner of Mound Road and Hollywood, city of Joliet documents state.

The Chicago-based Timber Hill Group is listed as the contract buyer for the property.

The land has been zoned for light industrial. Over the years, P.T. Ferro has used the land to store clean fill, and P.T. Ferro is leasing the land to ComEd for a laydown yard, according to Joliet.

The proposed fuel center would include:

• separate automobile and truck fueling areas
• 52 automobile parking stalls
• 78 tractor-trailer parking stalls
• 9,600 square foot convenience store with food and beverage options
• Fast-food drive-thru

City of Joliet officials informed the City Councl that access to the proposed fueling center will only be from Mound Road. Joliet will not allow curb cuts along Hollywood Road because the property is close to the I-80 on and off-ramps to the north and the at-grade railroad crossing to the south.

At some point in the future, the developer will likely petition Joliet to subdivide the property into two lots, to allow the development of the western lot for a truck-related use, city documents indicate.
