JOLIET, IL — Milano Bakery, Joliet's old-fashioned scratch bakery at 427 South Chicago St. since 1915, came up with a tasty way for customers to celebrate their favorite candidate for president. On Monday night, one of the bakery's managers made a couple dozen sugar cookies for Donald Trump as well as for Joe Biden. For those people who prefer to take a more neutral position, Milano Bakery made a couple dozen cookies that say Vote.

On Election Day, Joliet Patch visited Milano's shortly before 11 a.m. So far, the Trump cookies were out selling the Biden cookies by a large margin, the manager said.

She said she was not surprised because she lives in Manhattan and said she sees way more campaign signs for Trump than Biden in that area.

According to Milano staff, their owner got the idea of making the Biden and Trump sugar cookies from another area bakery that has had success selling them.

Tuesday marked the first time Milano's has made presidential cookies, the bakery manager said.

Milano's has made Chicago sports team cookies in the past, and Chicago Cubs cookies always out sell the White Sox, she said.

"Hawks and Bulls don't really sell here," she said.
