'Unwanted Male' Tries Breaking Into Buell Ave. Apartment: JPD

The apartment's tenant allowed Joliet police to come in and Joseph Hernandez was taken into custody, authorities announced.

JOLIET, IL —For the fourth time since September, 23-year-old Hosmer Street resident Joseph Hernandez has been booked into the Will County Jail. His latest arrest happened Friday morning in the 400 block of Buell Avenue.

According to Joliet police, Hernandez was initially arrested and given his notice to appear on charges of criminal damage to property, criminal trespass and obstructing a peace officer. Ultimately, Hernandez ended up at the Will County Jail because he had two outstanding Will County arrest warrants.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events from Friday morning led to Hernandez's latest run-in with his department:

  • At 10:19 a.m., Joliet police were called to an apartment in the 400 block of Buell for an unwanted male trying to break an apartment door.
  • Officers saw Hernandez exiting the front door of the apartment building, and they had prior knowledge of his two active Will County arrest warrants for possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal damage to property.
  • Once he saw the Joliet police, Hernandez shut and locked the front door to the apartment building.
  • Officers entered the building and determined Hernandez was in an apartment, and he refused to come out. The apartment’s tenant allowed Joliet police to come in and Hernandez was placed into custody.
