Vacant Certified Eyed For Drug Treatment Center: Paper
Joliet's print newspaper has a story on the former Certified Foods properties.

JOLIET, IL -In March 2017, the city of Joliet learned that the city's two east-side Certified Foods grocery stores were closing down. Both stores remain empty to this day. However, plans are in the works to reopen the Certified business on Richards Street as a drug treatment facility, the Joliet Herald-News print newspaper is reporting.
The story by Bob Okon is headlined, "Rehab Center Planned For Former Certified Store in Joliet."
Joliet Economic Development Director Steve Jones told Okon that people would stay at the building for extended periods of time. The property is at 1225 Richards St.

“It’s a living arrangement where you’re there and you’re under medical supervision,” Jones told Okon, according to his newspaper article.

In 2017, Jones told Joliet Patch that another grocery store would fill the void on the east side. The other empty Certified Foods is on Jackson Street, a few blocks from Collins Street.
"We feel there is a definite need for food on our east side, and our efforts are directed to try to make that happen at one or both sites," Jones told Patch more than a year ago.
