Victim Smacked In Face With Gun: Joliet Police Make Arrest

Joliet Police say the incident that led to the arrest of 24-year-old Kendall Gutyon began at a motel on McDonough Street.

JOLIET, IL — A Will County judge set bail at $75,000 for a 24-year-old Joliet man who police say used a gun to beat a 46-year-old man during an altercation inside a motel in the 1800 block of McDonough Street on Monday evening.

About five hours later, Kendall Guyton, who lives in the 200 block of Hunter Avenue, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, attempted armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Joliet police say that officers were called to a disturbance at a Joliet motel around 5:25 p.m. on Monday.

"Officers were able to determine that Guyton got into an altercation with a 46 year-old male victim while in a motel room. During the altercation, Guyton produced a firearm from a black bag and used the firearm to strike the victim in the face," police reports show.

The gun was not fired, according to Joliet police. During the incident, Guyton tried to steal several possessions belonging to the 46-year-old man, reports indicate.

Police said the victim got away from Guyton and did not need to be hospitalized.

"A black bag containing a firearm was recovered at the scene," police reports show.

As for Guyton, Joliet officers found him in the area of Black Road and 129th Infantry Drive around 10:20 p.m. He was booked into the Will County Jail around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, jail logs show.
