VIDEO: Startled Joliet Police Officer Finds Man, 37, Hiding Under Pool Deck: 'I Didn't Do Anything Wrong'

JOLIET, IL —A Joliet police officer responding to a late night criminal trespass case on Aug. 22 found herself startled when she walked into the backyard with her flashlight only to find her criminal suspect, 37-year-old Ian Kush, laying on his back hiding underneath the homeowner's swimming pool deck.

Joliet Patch continues to bring you more Joliet police body camera videos of recent arrests to show you some of the situations and people that the officers encounter. This time, Joliet police put Kush in the Will County Jail for violating an order of protection. He stayed there for three days. A Will County judge rejected the prosecution's petition to keep Kush detained under the SAFE-T-Act.

Kush's arrest happened in the 2200 block of Messines Ridge Court, over between Caton Farm Road and Vimy Ridge Drive.

"Are You Ian?" Joliet Police Officer Asks

The body camera footage shows one of the female officers walking into the homeowner's backyard to investigate allegations that Kush was on their property even though they had an order of protection to keep him away.

"Oh! Sorry about that," Kush blurts out as the officer shines her flashlight on him while he's lying on his back under the swimming pool deck.

"Are you Ian?" she asks.

"Yeah, I asked for my own bicycle parts," Kush responds. "I asked for my own bicycle parts. I'll be leaving."

As Kush tries to walk off, the officer tracks him down and puts him in handcuffs.

"I'm not doing anything wrong," Kush blurted out.

"Now, you know you're not supposed to be here," she informed him.

"I'm not even fighting you guys," Kush shouted. "There was no violation."

After asking Kush if he had any weapons in his possession, the officer asks, "are you intoxicated right now?"

"No," Kush responded.

"Have you been drinking?"

"No," Kush answered. "Well, I need my parts for my bike and then a lot of other stuff ... it's going to be all lifelong until they're dead and I'm asking for my stuff so we're going to be doing this every two months for the next 40 years until they're dead."

"Are You Guys Kidding Me? Drugs?"

After the female officer escorts Kush in handcuffs back to their squad car, a male officer sets Kush's backpack on the street and begins going through all its contents.

"If I was doing drugs, come on," Kush shouted. "Are you guys kidding me? Drugs? There's no drugs on me. Are you guys crazy, dude. You guys are looking for drugs?"

When Kush demands he be able to watch the male officer put all the contents back into his backpack, the female officer puts Kush into the backseat of the squad car and that everything is on her body camera video.

"I didn't do anything wrong," Kush argued. "I don't know why this is happening. I want my stuff that I obtained throughout all my life. That's my stuff. I want that stuff in the bag."
