Walmart's New Fulfillment Center Means 1,000 New Jobs For Joliet
"We're on an exciting journey to completely transform the way our supply chain operates," a Walmart senior vice president said.

JOLIET, IL — On Friday morning, Walmart provided an update on its construction project in Joliet, announcing that it's new next generation fulfillment center being built at 3501 Brandon Road should be open later this summer.

Joliet is one of four cities in the country where Walmart is putting its new fulfillment centers.

Each facility will create 1,000-plus new jobs, and those associates will help provide customers in the region with access to next-day or two-day shipping on more items than ever before, Friday's news release stated:
- The automated, high-density storage system will consolidate a manual, twelve-step process into just five steps, resulting in:
- Double the storage capacity
- Double the number of customer orders fulfilled in a day
- Increased comfort and opportunity for associates removing the need to walk up to 9 miles per day picking items from multiple floors of shelving spread out over hundreds of thousands of square feet of space.
- Increased access to more products than ever for Walmart+members and customers.
