Woman, 20, Shot Multiple Times On Joliet's Miller Avenue

Officers at the Joliet Police Department and paramedics from the Joliet Fire Department responded to the shooting call Wednesday night.

JOLIET, IL — A young Joliet woman is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds following a Wednesday night shooting on Joliet's east side near East Washington Street and Miller Avenue. Joliet's Fire Department and Police Department converged on the unit block of Miller Avenue after learning of the shooting at 8:40 p.m.

Joliet Police Lt. Chris Botzum issued a news release around noon on Thursday indicating the young woman's injuries are not considered life-threatening. The young woman was sitting behind the steering wheel of a car when she was shot. The gunshots struck her chest, leg, arm and hip, Joliet police revealed.

"Officers were able to determine that the victim had just parked on the street ... waiting to pick up a friend from (the) residence," Joliet police announced. "While the victim was waiting, several (people) walked near the vehicle. The (people) then fired multiple rounds at the vehicle, striking the victim and fled in an unknown direction."

The Joliet Fire Department sent an engine and ambulance from Station 1. "Upon arrival, crews found Joliet Police officers providing bleeding control to a shooting victim inside a vehicle," Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey stated. A 20-year-old woman had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, he said.

He said the victim was conscious, alert and was transported in stable condition to AMITA Health St. Josephs Hospital.

On Tuesday night, just up the road in Joliet's Ingalls Park area, the Will County Sheriff's investigated a double homicide in the 1800 block of East Washington Street. The shooting happened in the small parking lot of the Ingalls Park Liquor Store.

No arrests have been made in connection with either shooting, yet.
