Woman Climbs Out Window After Joliet Man Puts Gun To Her Chest: JPD

Joliet officers arrested 59-year-old Jose Juarez around 1:50 a.m. in the 500 block of Liberty Street.

JOLIET, IL — A 59-year-old Joliet man is now locked up in the Will County Jail after he pressed his loaded gun against a woman's chest during a disturbance inside their home early Wednesday morning, Joliet police announced.

The incident happened in the 500 block of Liberty Street. Now, Jose Juarez is incarcerated facing charges of domestic battery, interfering with reporting of domestic violence, aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, No FOID, aggravated assault and reckless conduct.

When Joliet police got to the house, they saw a woman climbing out a front window. The woman told officers that Juarez had attacked her and was still inside the house with another adult relative, police reports show.

Liberty Street is on the city's east side, between Parks and Youngs Avenues.

"It was determined that while inside the residence, Juarez pressed a handgun against his (victim's) chest, at which time she and Juarez scuffled over the handgun," police reports reflect. "The victim was able to momentarily control the handgun, at which point Juarez began to pull the victim’s hair and attempted to choke her. Juarez grabbed the handgun and then struck the victim on the head with it."

When the victim tried to escape, Juarez blocked her path, preventing her from leaving; Juarez also took the victim’s cell phone to prevent her from calling 911, police noted.

After the woman escaped through a bedroom window, police officers surrounded the Juarez house and a crisis negotiator came to speak with Juarez, who remained inside the house with the other female relative, according to Joliet police.

Juarez gave himself up by walking out the rear of the house. Inside, officers recovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun, police noted.

Juarez is expected to have his bail hearing Wednesday afternoon.
