Woman Escapes Strangulation At Motel 6 Near I-55: Police

The woman escaped the motel room on Mall Loop Drive and dialed 911 to summon Joliet police, authorities said.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police arrested 27-year-old resident Michael Severado Jr. early Sunday morning after officers say he strangled a woman with both hands inside the Motel 6 on Mall Loop Drive. The attack happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Severado, who lives in the 1000 block of Nowell Avenue, was booked into the Will County Jail on aggravated battery charges by 10 a.m.

"Officers determined that a 27-year-old female had been battered by Severado, an acquaintance of the victim," police spokesman Dwayne English stated.

According to English, "while both were in a guest room, they began to argue, at which time Severado strangled the victim with both hands. The victim pushed Severado away and left the room to call 911."

Following the 911 call to the Motel 6, officers saw Severado walking along Hennepin Drive, and he was taken into custody without any problems, police reports show."

Severado will go before a Will County judge on Monday for a bail hearing.
