Wreck At Richards Street, Manhattan Road Lands Woman In Joliet Police Handcuffs: Here's Why

JOLIET, IL — Wednesday's late afternoon crash involving two vehicles on the city of Joliet's east side has resulted in a staggering number of criminal charges and traffic citations for a Joliet woman who is 37 years old.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 3:43 p.m., the officers responded to the area of Richards Street and Manhattan Road for a traffic crash. English said that a Subaru Crosstrek allegedly struck the rear of another vehicle at the intersection before leaving the scene. No injuries were reported.

While responding, officers spotted the Subaru stopped at the intersection of Richards Street and Washington Street. Officers approached the vehicle and instructed the driver, later identified as Mireya Vazquez to place the vehicle in park.

"As officers attempted to speak with her, it is alleged that Vazquez drove away from the traffic stop. Officers did not pursue the vehicle," English relayed.

English noted that a short time later, officers located the Subaru stopped near Clark Street and Woodruff Avenue.
Vazquez was ordered out of the vehicle and taken into custody without further incident.

"During the investigation, officers observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment, and Vazquez admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving," English revealed.

In summary, Vazquez was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

On top of that, she was also cited for:

• Failure to Report an Accident

• Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Damage to an
  Attended Vehicle
• Failure to Give Information or Render Aid
• Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash
• Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle

Vazquez was processed and released with a Notice to Appear in court. The Subaru was towed from the scene.
