LA GRANGE PARK, IL – A new principal has been appointed for Park Junior High in La Grange Park.
La Grange School District 102 has selected Drew McGuire, who is now the principal at Marquardt Middle School in Glendale Heights. He starts in July.
McGuire replaces Jerome Green, the principal for the last four years.
Park Junior has an enrollment of around 650, about 100 fewer students than Marquardt, according to state records. At Park, about 15 percent of Park students come from low-income families, about a quarter of Marquardt's rate.
According to District 102, McGuire began his education career 22 years ago as a middle school teacher in Elmhurst District 205. He served for 11 years as an assistant principal at York High School in Elmhurst before coming to Marquardt.
At York, McGuire supported student activities, instructional leadership, student services and school operations, according to a District 102 news release. The district said his background also includes coaching sports at multiple levels.
"Mr. McGuire is an empathetic, collaborative, and hardworking leader who is passionate about creating an environment where all students can discover and pursue their interests both inside and outside the classroom," District 102's superintendent, Chris Covino, said in the news release.
The district said McGuire lives with his wife, a fifth-grade teacher, and their two children, who are elementary- and middle-school-aged.
