LA GRANGE, IL – A month ago, La Grange officials clashed over a proposed task force to find ways to increase lower-cost housing.
On Monday, the Village Board voted unanimously to approve a 10- to 15-member committee to look at the issue.
The task force is expected to meet monthly for a year.
As for attracting members, Village President Mark Kuchler said, "We should publicize it with all available means."
The proposed committee, which was recommended in the board's 2024 long-term plan for growth, was pushed by trustees Beth Augustine, Glenn Thompson and Shawana McGee.
The discussion was brief, a far cry from last month's debate. At the previous meeting, a trustee suggested Kuchler was trying to "kill the whole process," which Kuchler denied.
The task force is being asked to examine the issue of affordable housing and possibly make recommendations to increase it.
