LA GRANGE, IL – The Lyons Township High School board is poised to approve next year's student fees, with the school saying the costs are relatively low.

Officials said the fees have been largely steady for the last five years.

In an analysis of comparable suburban districts, the high school's fees remain on the lower end of the range, according to a memo.

While some districts charge lower base registration fees, they often assess more costs for athletics, activities and software, the memo said.

Still other districts use a course-based fee structure, resulting in higher and less predictable costs, the high school said.

"In contrast, (the high school) maintains a consistent and comprehensive fee structure, with required annual fees of approximately $250, no participation fees, and no additional software charges, providing both affordability and predictability for families," school official Patrice Payne said in the memo.

At Monday's board meeting, member Kari Dillon said she appreciated the consistent fees, especially with other rising costs.

"Thank you for doing what you can to keep those costs reasonable and manageable," Dillon said. "I think it's amazing that we're keeping these things steady."

The board plans to vote on next year's fees later this month.
