La Grange's Costs Triple For Disposal Of Concrete, Other Debris

LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange's costs for disposing of such waste as soil, concrete, asphalt and other debris have more than tripled this budget year.

On Monday, the Village Board is being asked to approve increasing the budget item for disposal to $150,000, from $45,000.

According to a village memo, disposal rates have risen a lot, partially attributed to more stringent environmental rules.

And the closure of disposal sites means using places with higher fees that are farther away, the village said.

Another driver is the classification of recent soil loads as "special waste" because of greater moisture, the memo said.

This is because much of the waste is related to water main breaks, the village said.

In the memo, the village said it would look at other options for disposal or reusing the material.

"Additionally, communication between Village staff and disposal companies will be strengthened to ensure clear direction regarding the material, classifications and disposal requirements," the memo said.
