LA GRANGE, IL – Burr Ridge resident Trevor Klein, a senior at Lyons Township High School, has been awarded a nationally competitive 4-year Air Force ROTC tuition scholarship — one of about 500 awarded by the Department of the Air Force this year.
The scholarship is among the most competitive military scholarships available to high school seniors, requiring candidates to meet rigorous academic, physical fitness, and medical qualifications, a formal interview with an Air Force officer, and selection by a national board.
At Lyons Township, Trevor completed the school's dual credit aviation program in partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He recently earned his private pilot's license, made possible in part by the Ray Aviation Scholarship, a national program of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Awarded through Chapter 461 at Bolingbrook Clow Airport, Trevor has been an active part of the local aviation community, including Young Eagles and building airplanes at hangar nights throughout his high school years.
This fall, he will attend Texas A&M University, one of the country's six senior military colleges, where he will study mechanical engineering. The Air Force ROTC scholarship, combined with Texas A&M's Patriot Scholarship, will cover his full cost of attendance. Upon graduation, he will commission as a second lieutenant in the Air Force.
