LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange officials were warned Monday about a safety hazard at a local intersection, resulting in near-misses.

A four-way stop was suggested.

A few years ago, pine bushes were planted in a duplex's front yard, along the sidewalk, at Lincoln and Washington avenues.

At Monday's Village Board meeting, resident Kim Mosley said the bushes were a problem.

"There have been several almost accidents, and I'm one of them," she said. "It's a blind spot."

At the intersection is the local park district's Lacey Community Center.

The east-west Lincoln has no stop signs, while Washington does. Drivers stopping at Washington next to the duplex have a particularly hard time seeing cross traffic.

Village Trustee Shawana McGee, who lives in the neighborhood, said she has witnessed three near-misses at the intersection while children were present.

"It's very dangerous, and the kids are running across Lincoln, leaving the park," she said.

Trustee Beth Augustine agreed, contending a four-way stop is needed. And she said the village should revisit its policy on landscaping, particularly on corners.

"It's a visibility issue, and it's a safety issue," she said.
