The home's occupants were downstairs when they heard the upstairs fire alarm, the village's interim fire chief, Matt Dubik, said in an interview Thursday. They called 911 and went outside.

Heavy smoke was seen coming out of the roof.

Three firefighters were treated. One was taken to the hospital, although that firefigher's status was unknown as of late Thursday morning, Dubik said.

The village has tagged the house as uninhabitable, Dubik said.

As with nearly all structure fires, departments from throughout the area responded.
