LA GRANGE, IL – A La Grange group is planning an Oktoberfest street festival that is expected to feature German-inspired live music, games, food and drinks.
The event is scheduled from Friday, Sept. 25, to Sunday, Sept. 27, on downtown's Calendar Avenue.
On Monday, the La Grange Village Board approved the event permit.
The La Grange Business Association is organizing the festival.
During the board's meeting, Dan Mulka, the association's executive director, said the family-friendly event will focus on local businesses.
He said his group is also partnering with nonprofits for such things as games during the festival.
Village President Mark Kuchler said he supports the event. He said he has spoken with many people who really want Oktoberfest.
Trustee Beth Augustine said it's been a while since La Grange has seen a fresh event.
"This one really fits in with the kinds of things the people in the area would like to do," she said.
The village's clerk, Paul Saladino, joked that he would like to see a dunk tank with Kuchler inside.
Kuchler responded in kind, "That's why we don't allow Clerk Saladino to speak much."
