Rabid Bat Found In La Grange Park: Authorities

LA GRANGE, IL – A bat in La Grange Park has tested positive for rabies, authorities said.

On Tuesday morning, the village of La Grange said the bat was discovered in the 900 block of North Waiola Avenue, which is a few blocks north of La Grange.

While the risk to the public remains low, residents are reminded to avoid handling bats, skunks or other wild animals, the village said.

Residents who have been bitten or exposed to a bat are urged to call their doctor immediately.

If your pet is not current on its rabies vaccination, have it vaccinated as soon as possible, the village said.

Residents are asked to call Cook County Animal and Rabies Control at 708-974-6140 if they find a bat or skunk that is injured, unresponsive or dead on their property or in a public area.
