LA GRANGE PARK, IL – Four cars were destroyed in a fire in La Grange Park after two transformers fell Tuesday afternoon, the local fire department said.
About 1:30 p.m., a utility pole came down in the rear parking lot at Arbor Animal Hospital, 14 E. 31st St., according to a fire department news release.
Two transformers plunged with the utility pole, with their oil igniting and causing the car fires, the department said.
At first, the live power lines on the ground hampered firefighters' efforts, but they repositioned their hoses so they could safely put out part of the fire, according to the department.
After ComEd made the area safer, firefighters finished the job.
No one was reported injured.
ComEd restored power to the area after several hours and worked late in the night to replace the pole and repair the remaining damage, the fire department said.
