LA GRANGE, IL – Democrat Elyse Hoffenberg appears to be winning in a landslide for the 17th district seat on the Cook County Board.
As of 10:20 p.m., she was ahead with 55,816 votes to Republican Liz Gorman's 41,736, according to unofficial results. It is a suburban district that stretches from La Grange to Orland Park.
They were vying to succeed Republican County Commissioner Sean Morrison. A few days ago, Morrison laid out the case against Gorman.
The race between Hoffenberg of La Grange and Gorman of Orland Park was perhaps best known for a kiss.
Bridgeview Mayor Steve Landek, a longtime Democratic boss, kissed Hoffenberg after hours at the Lyons Township office, where she works as the elected clerk.
The kiss was caught on a surveillance camera. Through a public records request, Gorman sought the video for the night it happened, though she never publicly revealed how she knew about it.
Hoffenberg blamed the township's elected supervisor, Christopher Getty, for surveilling her and then tipping off Gorman about the video. He denied it.
