BROOKFIELD, IL – You can stop missing Brookfield's old Serbian restaurant.
It's coming back.
In the spring, Skadarliya, 9237 Ogden Ave., across from the Colony Motel, closed after about a decade in business.
In an email to Patch Tuesday, Ivan Jancarich said he and a couple of business partners have closed on buying the building and are aiming to open the eatery Nov. 20.
"We will keep the traditional Serbian cuisine and theme but will be adding a lot of traditional American food," Jancarich said.
The restaurant will include a $65,000 pizza oven brought in from Italy, he said.
"We are very excited to get the restaurant up and running, as it was very much missed by the Brookfield locals and the Serbian community," Jancarich said.
In May, the Serbian Times wrote about Skadarliya's closure, calling it the "most famous Balkan restaurant in Chicago."
The restaurant's owner, Nenad Bojkovski, told the publication, "We are going into history. It's time for retirement. Thank you to all our guests and friends."
