On Wednesday, July 25th, 2012 at 6:00 pm well known Ultramarathoner and author, Dean Karnazes visited The Runner’s Soul, 5 South La Grange Road, La Grange, IL. Dean joined 100 fans in a mile and a half run through La Grange, a Q&A session and book signing. All of the proceeds from the event went to Dean’s charity Karno Kids, which works to keep kids active in schools and keep Physical Education programs a part of the curriculum. The Runner’s Soul presented a check for $2500 to Dean and Karno Kids. Jessica Niekrasz from Yoga’s Edge also presented a check to Dean’s charity.
Dean shared stories with the group about his time running across America, meeting the President Barack Obama and his First Lady, as well as his experiences running the Badwater Ultramarathon. Dean has completed many seemingly impossible tasks, such as, running 50 marathons, in 50 consecutive days, in all 50 states. However, his next endeavor will be running a marathon in every country in the world in just one year, totaling 204 marathons in 365 days. Dean finished his speech with one of his favorite quotes said to him by a 6 year old boy, “I run like I mean it.”
The Runner’s Soul was grateful to co-sponsor the event with The North Face.
