Ask the Stylist - Salon Hype Owner Ross Bartolomei Talks Fall Hair Trends

Everyone keeps asking me what’s in, what’s new for fall and winter, the simple answer is the 60’s influence. In a “what’s old is new” industry, a throwback to a bygone era or decade isn’t unusual. So, don’t be surprised if you see Nancy Sinatra’s beehive walking toward you - the big, teased crown and tousled hair. Look for a different take on color - we’re seeing variations of ombre and platinum blondes, honey blondes, too. For brunettes, it’s the copper dipped ends, which is different from ombre, which has a connection from roots to the tips. The news on style is the mid to short cuts - channeling Barbra Streisand, perhaps?

It’s all about reinventing the classic, but with today’s edge — and at Salon Hype clients will have their looks created in a chemical-free environment. Hair will be colored with mineral oil based-products, styling hair without Parabens and hair shampooed without sulfates. We’ve been working hard to transition our salons to be chemical-free and we’ve done it! No more harmful ingredients found in products that endanger the environment or are considered carcinogens. I am proud to say that we use zero products that contain ammonia or formaldehyde. My personal mission is to keep our clients and coworkers safe and protect the environment. Easier said than done? Yes, but we found a way. For hair color, we’ve transitioned our clients to the ammonia-free Inoa line made by L’Oreal. The results have been amazing! We are also big advocates of sulfate-free and Paraben-free shampoos and conditioners. While sulfates get hair remarkably clean, they are proven to be linked to a number of health issues. As a matter of fact, sulfates have already been removed from home and commercial cleaning products. Why is it taking so long for the personal care industry to take a stance and make changes? Hype Solutions, is our answer. We developed this hair care product line which is strictly sulfate and Paraben-free and includes an organic treatment oil for body and skin.

So, this fall and winter, when you’re ready for a change and maybe even a throwback to a decades past, remember that you have options -- healthy and safe options. Just as many consumers believe that small batch liqueur and farm to table food is what matters, it matters to me that what you put in your body is as important as what you use on your body.
